Community 101

Community 101 is a service project I worked on in my peer group class this year. It gives us the opportunity to take a leadership and mature role as high school students. The first step in the process is to decide what issues are important in our community. Our group voted on homelessness and foster care. The next thing we did was break up into committees and assign our duties. The committees included an executive committee, public relations, event planning, and fundraising. I was a part of the executive committee. We usually did the “housekeeping” things. Like writing and sending out letters, contacting people and checking in with the non-profits. Through the hard work of these committees, we fundraised an extra $1000 to give out at our school and gave over $5000 to non-profits that deal with homelessness or foster care in our own community.

Hero.

To a lot of children, heroes means someone like Superman or Spiderman. When you are young you dream about being them someday and imagine what it would be like to fly around the world. To me though my hero has always been my dad. He has in fact saved my life, been a shoulder to cry on, or just someone to throw the ball around with. My dad is one of the most important people in my life. He has shaped me into the woman I am going to became. Any boy that comes into my life is going to have a high standard to live up to. My dad has always and forever will be my Superman.

Animals in the wild?

Fish are so free as they swim around in the clear blue water. I have never really thought about them not being in the wild. When they are in a tank, free to swim around but still closed in by glass walls. In the ocean they have the freedom to swim wherever they like going from one area of the ocean to another. I guess if I were a fish I would rather have some variety in my life and be able to go outside of the glass walls that close me in. I do think I would like the fake rock caves though or pirate ships.

Put a Little Color in Your Life.

Life would be terrible without color. I cannot imagine living in a world of black and white. Colors that stand out to me are ones that come from nature. Purple is my all time favorite color and in nature I think of grapes.

Yellow is another great color. Can you imagine if our sun was gray? It would definitely put a damper on my day. I think of bright yellow fish when I think of yellow. I have always wanted to go scuba diving and see all the sea life that exists under the surface of the water.fish

Earth Day

Earth day. I don’t really even know what it is all about. I think it is important to keep our world a better place. I am not extreme though. I don’t think we can really reverse all the damage we have already done. I think I remember something in science that was some law that everything decays and doesn’t always come back. I try my best to recycle bottles and paper but I don’t really go to extremes with all that stuff.

# 7 Slice of Life

“But Mommy, it was dirty!” I replied as I lifted my eyes to meet my mothers. I was two at the time. I had decided it was a good idea to take a sharp object, otherwise known as scissors, and chop the front of my hair to a sheer buzz. I had a butch haircut till enough time passed by for my fuzzy hair to grow back out to its normal locks.

#6 Booktalk Reflection

I listened to “Smack” by Melvin Burgess. It was a very intriguing and interesting book talk. I found myself mesmerized by the story. I also think that the background music really added to the bait of the book talk. In the climaxes the music changed and drew you in. The author of this book talk really did a great job with differentiating the music and the script. It grabbed your attention like none of the other ones I have listened to did. At first I did think that it was random and confusing but I think once it gets going the confusion at the beginning almost adds to its enticement. I really enjoyed this one and recommend others to check it out. http://odeo.com/episodes/11189763-Smack-by-Melvin-Burgess
